SEISMIC RISK LABORATORY

Mudir rasmi
Yodgorov Sharofiddin lsmatullaevich

Head of the Laboratory - PhD in Geological and Mineralogical Sciences, Senior Research Fellow.

MAIN SCIENTIFIC DIRECTIONS OF THE LABORATORY
 Seismic risk assessment and mapping at various scales  Determining the damage to buildings and structures from seismic impacts  Developing earthquake scenarios considering ground conditions  Creating methods for managing seismic risk during strong earthquakes  Developing software for seismic risk assessment  Developing simulation models of regions for strong earthquake scenarios
OBJECTIVES OF THE LABORATORY:
 Development of seismic risk assessment methodologies based on modern approaches  Development of a digital simulation model for the economic assessment of damage levels caused by strong earthquakes  Development of technology for forecasting the risk of strong earthquakes  Creation of a seismic risk database for the territory of the republic, and development of a seismic risk map based on this data  Development of a GIS-based computer program for rapid assessment of earthquake consequences and preliminary estimation of potential losses during strong earthquakes  Development of measures for the reduction and management of seismic risk
KEY SCIENTIFIC OUTCOMES IN RECENT YEARS:
The seismic hazard and risk at the regional level for the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan have been assessed, and a seismic hazard map at a scale of 1:1,000,000 has been compiled. This map will be used to develop preventive measures aimed at ensuring the seismic safety of the population and territory of the Republic. The computer program “SeismicRiskAssessment.v.2.0” has been developed based on a Geographic Information System (GIS). It is designed for the rapid identification of earthquake consequences and the preliminary assessment of potential damage in the event of strong earthquakes in the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The program also supports the development of a digital database for seismic risk assessment and mapping across the country. According to the results of scenario-based earthquake analysis for seismic risk assessment in the Tashkent, Samarkand, and Fergana regions, all existing residential buildings are located within seismic impact zones of 6, 7, and 8 points. Based on the MSK-64 International Macroseismic Scale, 188,119 residential buildings in the Tashkent region are estimated to suffer damage of degrees III and IV, while 148,703 buildings in the Samarkand region and 132,895 in the Fergana region are expected to experience damage of degrees IV and V. These maps are intended to support preparedness for potential strong earthquakes and the implementation of measures to mitigate their consequences.
